The Goal-Oriented Assessment of Lifeskills (GOAL)is an evaluation of fundamental motor abilities needed for daily living.
The GOAL reflects a modern approach to occupational therapy assessment, incorporating concepts from the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF; World Health Organization [WHO], 2001) and the Occupational Therapy Practice Framework (American Occupational Therapy Association [AOTA], 2008).
Designed for children ages 7 to 17, the GOAL consists of seven Activities, dynamic functional tasks that are markers for important activities of a child’s daily life. The GOAL Activities are fun and motivating, but also provide a standardized, psychometrically precise measure of a child’s strengths and challenges. The presence of “Goal-Oriented” in the name reflects a unique focus on measuring functional abilities that have tangible, meaningful goals, in addition to assessing foundational motor skills.
